They're in the process of making the record and needed a more up-tempo song with that kind of feel. We stumbled on that bartender idea and just kind of ran with it. We talked about it being a female like Hillary Scott singing about going to a bar and trying to get over somebody, and what that whole process would be like. BH: You really, really nailed it. You were on the bus with them. Did it happen quickly or was it over a few days?
RC: We wrote it over the course of a couple days. We started when we actually hopped on the bus. We were going to, I think, Omaha, Nebraska, which is a pretty standard routing for artists, like the Omaha, Wichita, Oklahoma City run. And so, we wrote from here to like St. Louis maybe. And we got a good start on the song. And then the next day we finished the song.
BH: One of the things I really find fascinating about this song is its musicality. There are grooves within the groove, and just when you think you're going to go this way, you'd go another way.
They know what they like on stage when they're singing a song, they know what they need for the crowd and what works for the crowd. I would actually say that I probably had more to do with the lyrics and they did more of the music. BH: And I think that song was important for where they were in their career. That song just went boom It takes you back to a moment of hurt in your life. RC: Yeah, we've all been through that.
